Evaluate your payment options
Payment for home care depends on the type of care you receive, the conditions prompting care and the insurance available for your loved one. Each of these considerations has its own requirements. If a person has Medicare and requires Medicare eligible services, that individual would clearly choose that option instead of private payment. If a person has private insurance and that insurance plan does not cover all the costs of care, that patient may choose to supplement their care by privately paying for additional care.
Each client is unique and has different insurance and financial circumstances. At Superior Home Care, we work with all of our clients at admission and afterwards, on an ongoing basis, to maximize existing insurance to the fullest extent. We strive to give our clients the utmost value from Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, county funding, etc. Families who pay for care privately can pay by check or credit card.
Responsibilities of patients and families in the caregiving process
Home care is most successful (and sometimes only successful) when patients and family members work as a partner with the provider agency. It is incumbent upon patients and their families to afford staff with a safe working environment.
Furthermore, patients and family members must work with staff in a respectful, cooperative way in order to meet the goals of their care plan. Patients should not allow unnecessary family or environmental conditions to interfere with an agency’s ability to help achieve their care goals — regardless of whether their goals are short-term or long-term. Patients and their families deserve to be treated with dignity and respect; in turn, they should offer staff the very same courtesy.
A key component of high-quality care is consistent, timely and accurate communication. If a family can pick one person to be responsible for communicating with an agency, that allows for all three conditions to be met. And that will facilitate the best provision of care.
