Training Updates

Our final specialized certification training starts this month – Dementia & Alzheimer’s Certification!

This certification series is likely our most anticipated.  This training series is extra special because we have been invited to work exclusively with a team from Penn State University’s gerontology department to actually help them develop this training for home care workers!  We will become part of their research project, which is quite an honor for us.  Most importantly, we will help them truly understand the home care dynamic, so this training can be developed as effectively as possible in our care setting.

We will host two groups of 8 caregivers in each group for this training. We will also be offering this training next year, so if you couldn’t get into a group this year – get on our waiting list!

The dates of our trainings are:

12/3/2025
12/10/2025
12/17/2025

Employee of the Month

We have some new points champions for the month of November, and these winners racked up their additional points by picking up extra shifts every week! Here are our November winners:

Overall Winner: Aliyah Armstrong – Way to go, Aliyah! You earned $199.25 in points over the last month.

Runner-Up: Aniya Tarpley – Great work, Aniya! You were right behind Aliyah earning $197.50.

Shout Outs from the previous 4 weeks –

  • Shout Out! to Casey Karlovich – for doing a wonderful job as our new Operations Manager
  • Shout Out! Expressing gratitude to all of our Superior caregivers who show up every day and are the bright moment in our clients’ day by helping them continue living in their own home. A smile, a home cooked meal and a simple shower can truly make a person’s day.
  • Shout Out! To Stacey Beatty from her partner, Cindy Harper – for always working side by side to make sure everything is covered.
  • Shout Out! To Briel Broome – one of our newest caregivers but already proving to be one of our best. She is stepping up to cover shifts while other caregivers are off, providing clients with outstanding care and already clients are calling us to express how happy they are with her. Amazing job, Briel!
  • Shout Out! To Penny Carter-Smith – for 14 years of committed, exception service on our team this month. As Penny prepares for retirement, we’re keeping her in our prayers for a smooth transition to this next phase in life.
  • Shout Out! To Mark Maglio – for actually taking the time to hop onto Google and give us an outstanding review. Thank you, Mark!
  • Shout Out! To Jennifer Clymire – for always being flexible, helping to cover shifts wherever she can and being one of the first staff every time a new training is offered to sign up and complete each training.

Superior Home Care
Mark Maglio and Cayley Poulin

Superior Home Care

We were honored to once again accompany two of our best caregivers to the Direct Care Worker of the Year Event in Harrisburg in November. PA Home Care Association & Department of Aging host this honorary event to celebrate caregivers and the important work we do.

Superior is proud to congratulate Mark Maglio and Cayley Poulin on their nomination for Direct Care Worker of the Year!

Both Mark and Cayley attended the 2025 PHA Award Luncheon in Harrisburg, where their dedication, compassion, and commitment to their clients were recognized. Their care truly goes above and beyond, and we are honored to have them as part of our team.

Please join us in celebrating their outstanding contributions to the lives of those they serve!

Will you be the one nominated next year??

Saying Goodbye

Saying good-bye is never easy – we wish the best to our departing teammates!

Superior Home Care
Kelli Carper

Last month we said a bittersweet goodbye to Kelli Carper, who has been a cherished member of the Superior family for the past 10 years. She is launching into an exciting and well earned position with the Allegheny Intermediate unit working with children and families. No doubt she will soar in this role.

During her time with us, Kelli touched countless lives with her compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment. She gave her all—always going above and beyond for both clients and caregivers—and her tender, loving presence will be deeply missed.

We are incredibly proud of the remarkable woman she has become and grateful for the legacy of kindness she leaves behind. As Kelli embarks on this exciting new chapter, we wish her nothing but success, joy, and fulfillment.

Thank you, Kelli, for everything. You will always remain part of the Superior family.

Cheryl Harris

Superior Home Care
Cheryl Harris

After 7 years of faithful, dedicated service Cheryl Harris, our Billing Specialist, will be retiring from Superior. Cheryl has been one of our most steadfast, committed administrative team members and she fills a critical role on our team. She will not easily be replaced!

Beyond the duties of her position, Cheryl has always been the kind of team player who just stepped in and covered whatever base needed covered, from greeting visitors to assisting applicants in for an interview to making photo ID badges – this part of her will be especially hard to replace.

Cheryl is looking forward to slowing down so she can fully enjoy being with her grandson Tyler as he continues to grow (too fast!), and her husband and family. We are so happy for her to reach this milestone and move into full retirement.

We knew this day was coming, Cheryl, and even with time to prepare it is hard to see you go! You will always be part of our Superior family and we expect you to come back to visit us!

A little holiday fun

Mark Maglio and Cayley Poulin

Ingredients
12 sugar cookies
2 cups royal icing
6 marshmallows, cut in half
long orange sprinkles
M&Ms
black gel food color or small stick pretzels for the arms

Instructions
Take 1/2 cup of your royal icing and dye it black using black food coloring. Once you reach your desired shade of black, thin to 15 second consistency. Add to piping bag and snip off a small tip.
Thin remaining white icing to 10 second consistency and add to a piping bag, snipping off a small tip.
Frost cookies with white icing allowing it to drip over the sides.
Immediately add cut marshmallow towards the back of the cookie Add M&Ms and then pipe black stick arms “floating” out away from the head while icing is still wet.
Allow the cookies to set for 20-30 minutes before decorating the face with two eyes, a surprised ‘O’ for a mouth. Use some leftover white icing to attach the orange sprinkle nose.
